INDIVIDUAL NOTES THAT ARE EACH A VARIATION OF A SIMILAR MELODY
Eastern Market Metro Plaza is a center point between two zones of activity, Eastern Market and Barracks Row.
By activating the plaza, a continuous zone of activity can be created alone 7th and 8th streets along Pennsylvania
Avenue. Circulation through the site creates dead zones that are enhanced with programmatic elements, including
public gathering spaces, an information display area, and a new information kiosk. There are a variety of public areas,
including a public lawn to serve the library on 7th St. SE, a more intimate gathering space along D St. SE for residents,
and a public seating area with tables along 8th St. SE that serves as an outdoor dining area for the coffee shops at the
entrance to Barracks Row. The kiosk presents a welcoming facade to the Metro station entrance, and on a pleasant
day, employees can interact with patrons at an outdoor counter, along which information pamphlets are displayed. On
more unpleasant days, there is an interior service counter that patrons can approach with questions about the area.
The structure is made of glulam ribs and spanned by salvaged wood joists that supports a green roof.
